Opening Ceremony: Competition and Development of Transnational Corporations Business Courses for NYIT MBA (Executive Program) with Mr. Shanqing Zhou’s (Economic and Commercial Counsellor) Lecture

On April 7th, 2017, NYIT School of Management held an opening ceremony of Competition and Development of Transnational Corporations Business Courses for NYIT MBA (Executive Program). Mr. Zhou Shanqing, the economic and Commercial Counsellor of the Chinese Consulate General in New York attended and delivered a speech. The VIP guests who attended the event also included Dr. Rahmat Shoureshi, the interim President of NYIT and Dr. Scott Liu, the Executive Associate Dean of NYIT School of Management. Counsellor Zhou elaborated the Chinese strategy and posture in world trade and investment in his speech.

The increasingly close ties between the two countries have boosted the economic and social development of both countries. Therefore, the development of transnational enterprises is closely related to the political and economic relations among countries. As a transnational enterprise, it should not only consider the international environment but also adapt it. In addition, as China's economy and financial markets have many problems compared with the U.S., Chinese banks will have to overcome many difficulties in order to achieve greater success in the US financial sector. Facing with new challenges and opportunities, Bank of China USA will honor its commitment to “serving society, delivering excellence”, strive to become the top-notch foreign bank in the US and make further contributions to a sound Sino-US economic and trade relationship.

Counsellor Zhou firstly revealed two types of capital allocation: non-financial investment and financial investment and showed the audience a series of date, from which Chinese trade volume grew rapidly since China joined WTO in 2001. Then he explained development and transition of the world economic situation. In the past, most of the economic systems were dominated by the west due to the impact of Western religious laws, the Post-WWII trade and some financial institutes, like World Bank. After China’s reform and opening up, and the disintegration of the Soviet Union, the socialist camp began to transform as well. Currently, after 70 years of the postwar system, there are still many issues needed to be adjusted, like the ownership structure.

Additionally, Counsellor Zhou stressed that Chinese investors should strengthen their investing attitude toward U.S. market, fully research before the investment, explore docking during the investment and adapt after the investment.

The whole audience benefited a lot from the lecture. Counsellor Zhou took many easily understanding examples to let us know better about the international investment environment. Modern China is in the transition from a big trading nation to a trading power, from an attracting investment nation to investing abroad nation. If we can seize the opportunity, integrating various resource, China will certainly have an important place in the world trade markets.
